Step Tread Grooves

Our Step Tread Grooves give you the option to finish your tiling  job a cut above the status quo. For instance, there are many forms of stair nosing on the market, but they all have one thing in common – these stair nosing systems require the ‘adding on’ of separate materials to achieve the end result.

By cutting grooves into the tile itself  a perfect non slip stair nosing is achieved without adding anything which has the potential to fall off with the passing of time.Step Tread Grooves

The set of three 6mm wide grooves can be applied to vitually any selected floor tile.

This process provides a non slip section in the tile itself without the necessity of  using  pre-made step tread pieces which rarely match the rest of your tiles.

After extensive testing on both polished and rockface tiles, our Step Tread Grooves acheived the “V” rating (approx. equal to R12) as per AS/NZS 4586:2004- SLIP RESISTANT MEASUREMENT OF NEW PEDESTRIAN SURFACES.

Copies of the slip resistance test certificates are available upon request.

The Mitred Edge

Mitred edges provide a simple, clean finish when two tiled surfaces meet at a right angle, eg. on stairs, patios etc…

However, the the feedback that we have been getting until now is that tilers see mitering as a slow and tedious process and generally will avoid doing it if at all possible, especially where long meterage is required.

As you will see from this video, Stile Edge has now developed a process of producing a fully machined mitred edge which is both economical and labour saving .

Our Mitred Edge will also be manufactured to an exact 45 degree angle, and every piece will be of the same high and consistent quality.

Tile Edging On The Correct Side Of The Tile

tileedginggrainjpg

When it comes to tile edging, Most people only think about how many metes of edging they need or what profile to use for their edging tiles…

and don’t seem to think about or consider the roll that the pattern or grain has to play in the finished job and the overall look of the finished product.

I thought it would be a good idea to point out that tile patterns could affect the overall look of your tiling job when you are having your tiles edged.

So this brief article is aimed at highlighting this issue and helping you get the best results for your new swimming pool or home.

In most cases the direction of the tile pattern isn’t considered when the tile edging is being ordered.

It’s vitally important to have your tile edging on the correct side of the floor tile, especially when your tiles have a distinct pattern or grain, that’s if you want a uniformed look on your tiled floor areas.

Lets say For example that you have a square underground concrete swimming pool that’s 10m x 5m and you are laying tiles around your pool area.

That’s a total of 30 lineal meters of tile edging for your pool coping tiles (two sides at 10 lineal meters and two sides at 5 lineal meters).

Now, if the tiles you use have a distinct pattern or grain and you‘ve decided that when your tiles are being installed or laid, that the pattern of the tiles will all go in the same direction.

So we’ll assume that the direction of the tiles pattern is going to be parallel with the long edge of the pool, this will mean that you will need to have at least 20 lineal meters of edging tiles edged parallel with the pattern of the tile. In other words the edging is going in the same direction as the pattern.

But because we need a total of 30 lineal meters of tile edging we still need to edge an additional 10 meters of tiles at right angles to the pattern.

By doing this, it will make sure that you will keep the uniformity of the overall floor area, ensuring that every tile laid has the pattern going in the same direction.

Now this is a pretty brief explanation of how tile patterns and grains can affect the look of your pool so I hope that I have explained it clearly, to make it even easier for you I intend on going out on site and recording a short video showing you a real live example of just what I’m trying to explain and how having your tile edging on the correct side of your tiles does make a difference to your finished project.

I Got The Perfect Match.

“After deciding on the floor tiles we wanted in the new home we were building, I was really disappointed to find out how hard it was to find a step tread that looked half decent against my new tiles.

Because I couldn’t bring myself to settle for just any old “Off the shelf edging tile” we decided to put off tiling our stair case… for over 2 years.

I just could not find anything that I was happy with. I got so fed up with wasting so much of my time looking for a half decent step tread without any success, I was nearly ready to give up.

Luckily,  before I gave in to using a tread piece that I knew I would not be happy with, I heard about Stile Edge.janetileedgingthumb

I am now the proud owner of a beautifully tiled staircase with perfectly matching edges. I am so pleased that I didn’t just get whatever step tread I could find at the time as now my floor looks totally complete and unified and not like a mix and match tiling job.”
